Amazing cross-sections, but a rehash with added material

Incredible Cross-sections of Star Wars Episode IV, V & VI
Star Wars Complete Cross-Sections: The Spacecraft and Vehicles of the Entire Star Wars Saga

Now, we have another new book, with most of the content rehashed though.

Compared to the previous compilation the Star Wars Complete Cross-sections which is 152 pages, also from DK, this hardcover is 208 pages. The extra pages come in the form of related film stills and commentary. Some film stills and additional commentary are also added to the cross-section pages.

The expanded edition comes with 4 new cross sections: Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder, the Medical Frigate, Home One and the Scout Speeder Bike.

The book itself is smaller in size to the first few books. It's not much an issue because the details can still be seen but you lose the effect of viewing those amazing artworks at even larger sizes.

The illustrations from Hans Jenssen and Richard Chasemore are amazingly detailed. It's quite a feat to imagine all those engines and wires running beneath the spaceships and whatever vehicles or walkers. When I look at Star Wars vehicles, part of me think of them as movie props, but these guys really make everything look so believable.

Even if you already have the Complete Cross-Sections, I think as a fanatic Star Wars fan, you would probably want to get this book just because of those four new cross-sections. I know that I-can't-help-myself-I-have-to-have-everything feeling when it comes to collecting.

5 stars if you're seeing the content for the first time.

Excellent book if you are like me and weren't able ...

Excellent book if you are like me and weren't able to ever purchase ALl of the Star Wars crossection books.
The size of all of artwork in this book is a little smaller than the size in the original DK books, but is still large enough to still marvel at all of the details in these intricately drawn, technical illustrations.
It's a plus to have all of these crossection illustrations under one complied reference style book.
Highly recommend even if you have the larger version illustration books.

Updated Review.
I have, recently, purchased the older 2007 version of this book to do a comparison.

I decided to update my previous review of this recent version of this book to both dispel the idea of this 2013 version of this book being a "money grab" by DK and just a, so called, smaller formatted, rehashed version of the previous 2007 larger formatted version.

First, and most important to note is that while the overall page size has changed only in height, the width of the 2013 version of this book is near identical to the 2007 version of the Star Wars Vehicle Cross-sections reference book.
I did a book over book comparison of almost every page and layout of each page.
The actual size/scale of the actual cross-section artworks have not been reduced so significantly from the 2007 version to be jarringly noticeable. They reworked some of the overall page formhat and item callouts to accomdate the shorter height of the book. The difference in scale is NOT enough to take away from seeing all of fine details of these drawings.
In some instances, some of the vehicle cross-sections have gotten a larger scale.
Obviously and noticeably, larger drawing of General Grievous's speeder/interceptor, enlarge views of the various components of AT-AT walker cockpit, larger drawing of AT-RT walker, larger drawings of the Republic interceptor's circular Booster rocket module, larger drawing of the TIE interceptor and a much larger scale of the snow speeder, which is one of my favorite Star Wars flying vehicles.
The only cross-section drawing that I noticed a jarring difference in scale is the Juggernaut land vehicle.
In the 2007 book, this is an impressive sized and scaled drawing. In the 2013 version, for some inexplicable reason, this vehicle is the only one that stood out that has been drastically reduced in scale in relation to the overall page size and the drawing image no longer "commands" the space on the page that the 2007 version did. Strange decision there.
You still get the same trI-fold/triptic pages of the much larger and detailed Star Wars vehicles from the 2007 book version. Again, at a slightly smaller, but nevertheless, still impressive scale.
Plus, you get 4 new cross-sections. Luke's speeder, the speeder bike, Home One and the Medical Frigate. All just as impressively detailed.
These weren't just sloppily added as an afterthought.
They are done just as well as all of the previously drawn cross-sections and the details on these new cross-section drawing are, again, impressively executed.
This book is NOT a money grab by DK as some suggest and if you do not have a complete set of the larger, previously published DK Star Wars cross-sectional reference books, then I still, solidly, recommend this recent 2013 offering as the version to purchase and add to your Star Wars reference book collection.

Good If You Don't Already Own "Complete Cross-Sections"

What would any good Star Wars product be without a shiny new Special Edition every few years? I haven't considered myself a Star Wars fan in a long time, but I love the Incredible Cross-Sections books. I've spent hundreds of hours poring over them, laying out the floor plans and systems in my head, often just marveling at Richard Chasemore's and Hans Jenssen's attention to detail. I bought "Star Wars: Complete Cross-Sections" for convenience sake, and for the four new cutaways and the making-of material.

"Complete Vehicles" incorporates all of the material from CCS and adds four new two-page cutaways - Luke's Landspeeder, the Medical Frigate, Home One, and the Imperial Speeder Bike. Along with the four new illustrations, each cut-away is accompanied by a number of screenshots from the movies. Some of the more iconic vehicles also receive an additional two-page spread with additional photographs and a couple paragraphs of information.

The new format is obviously more kid-friendly than the original ICS books (which were already written for 9-12 crowd) but the smaller format hurts the impact of many of the cut-aways. The pages are two inches shorter than they were in CCS, and many of the cut-aways have been shrunk to fit the busier format. Oddly enough, "side" cut-aways that were smaller in the original books, like the Tantive IV escape pod and the AT-RT, are bigger this time around and receive their own page.

If you already own "Complete Cross-Sections" you don't really need to buy "Complete Vehicles," unless you're a die-hard fan who HAS to have the four new cross-sections. The frequently awe-inspiring level of detail in the cut-aways, and the charmingly simple format which allowed the reader to focus on the illustrations, seem kind of lost in this shinier and more compact triple-dip.

Oh well. At least we still have the originals.

Interesting theories of past unresolved deaths

One must appreciate that Dr. Noguchi was at the forefront of forensic medicine around the time of this book, and in that respect he deserves accolades. In this, his second "coroner" book he assumes a consultant viewpoint of some famous and mysterious, unresolved deaths. Some of the more interesting ones are Elvis, the family members of Jeffrey McDonald, and even Jack the Ripper. It is interesting to see his viewpoints, although the novel at this point in time is becoming dated. Technology is rapidly evolving and resolving more and more questionable deaths. We have Mr. Noguchi to thank for promoting the field.

Coroner at Large

The second part from Dr. Noguchi, with more tales of other celebrities' autopsies and stories behind them. There is always a story to be told about each and every one of us human beings and they do not stop with death. Again, Dr. Noguchi does not hold back his integrity and examines each patient with a very objective look. He does not judge and only relies on scientific results rather than having Hollywood or anyone else instruct him on what to say and not what to say.

Wished for just a bit more

The information presented on many of the cases was just about what I had either remembered from the actual time of the event or reading about it. There was never a shocking tidbit released that I didn't already know. Still a good read, but I just needed that smoking gun.

I don't read nearly enough, and usually I struggle through a book over the course of weeks & sometimes even months! I picked up Giftology one evening after a friend had "gifted" it to me, and didn't put it down until it was finished sometime late that night. Giftology is a great book and John Ruhlin is the real deal. He has seriously caused me to step back and look at how I run my company, and how I show appreciation to my customers, employees, and even vendors.

About the Author
Robert A. DeVillar, Professor of Education at Kennesaw State University, received a BA in Latin American studies, an MA in ethnic studies, and an MA and PhD in education from Stanford University. He has held tenured faculty and leadership positions within the several university systems. As a year-long Fulbright Scholar at the Center for Social Science Research at the University of Colima, Mexico, he conducted and later published research on indigenous economic, educational, and immigration issues. Other published research includes work in Belize, China, Costa Rica, Ecuador, and Mexico, and various books, journal editorships and articles.
Binbin Jiang is Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership of the Bagwell College of Education at Kennesaw State University. Educated in both China and the United States, Dr. Jiang has over 20 years of experience in teaching, research, and educational administration in both countries, as well as in professional development for K-16 teachers from Mexico, Japan, China, and the United States. Her research focuses on effective teaching and leadership in multicultural education, international education, cross-cultural contexts, second and foreign language learning settings, and the preparation of educational leaders and programs.

Really good coverage but not quite mastery

Really, really good coverage of bash scripting core fundamentals. Literally one of the best I've read and I've read many of them. I wouldn't go nearly as far as to say complete as some of the other reviews have stated but it definitely does a really good job of getting you started down the road. The only issue I had in the end is the "mastering" part of the title. I don't think any book under 200 pages should claim to provide mastery of a topic, especially one as complex as bash shell scripting, but in the end I decided not to dock it a start because it does such a good job at what it does cover. My preference would be to drop the small sections on Perl and Python. They are topics worthy of their own treatment and the pages could have been put to better use going deeper on shell scripting.

I was extremely skeptical at first glance; however after reading this book it truly covers each topic with enough detail to give a clear understanding of the tasks at hand. Doing a lot of automation work with frameworks like Puppet which can benefit from shell scripts, and all I can say is wow.. you really need to pickup a copy of this book as it is well worth the cost.

Something I really enjoyed about this book is that it isn't preachy

Something I really enjoyed about this book is that it isn't preachy, rather set in a conversational tone. This book explains how to feel a little more at ease when talking to the opposite sex, and confidence really does attract interest. There are a few spots in this book that made me giggle, I like when the author speaks candidly about a situation or subject matter. I am a bit awkward at times when communicating with people in general, so this book definitely gave me points to think about and try to improve on. This review is written based on my unbiased opinion.

The Science of Attraction is a must read for anyone who is having trouble in the relationship department. It goes into detail on different things that we each look for in creating a lasting relationship. Having access to this book some 20+ years ago might have saved me from a divorce or two. People today are more in touch with technology than each other so they can really benefit from reading this book and learning what to look for and/or avoid in a potential life partner.

This is a well written book for those that need help in flirting. This is written to give you tips on how to flirt and attract the opposite sex. these is an easy read and the tips are easy to take and make your own and use yourself. I fnd that this books flows nicely and you just keep just readu=ing and finding new tips to use to get the results that you want to accomplish. These is a book with tips that you can easily use and not feel that you are cheesy or obvious that you are using tips from a book. I received this free in exchange for an honest review.

Definitely HOT alright!

Well, it's 3 in the morning in NZ, I have to get up early tomorrow for course but I have just finished reading Hothouse Flower and…. OH MY GOD!! It may be the fact that I'm sitting at my computer screen bleary eyed and fatigued, BUT! Words literally fail me right at this moment! While it was not my favorite book in the series, nor were Ryke and Daisy my most favorite couple (sorry but Lily and Lo most DEFINITELY take the cake!) it did NOT disappoint.

I have been an avid follower of the Ritchie sisters and the Addicted series since book one, so I was counting down the days (and then hours and minutes) until the release of Hothouse Flower. Becca and Kristie, if you guys ever read this, you have done an AMAZING job and I truly hope that you are celebrating with a glass of bubbly!

I really enjoyed Ryke and Daisy's story. I think it's safe to say that SO many people were waiting for their story to unfold. The build of Ryke and Daisy's relationship was done brilliantly and the character development was just wow! It wasn;t rushed, or forced and it's been a nice slow build from the previous books. We all knew that they would get there eventually so for them to finally have their own book… it's better than chocolate cake :)

God, Daisy… my heart just broke for her sometimes. There were so many points in the book where I imagined that her troll of a mother was real and I could just reach out and give her a good bi*** slap on Daisy's behalf. Poor thing. Ryke, I actually wanted to slap him too sometimes! I like that his character is rough and abrasive and somewhat withdrawn when it comes to sharing his thoughts/feelings with others, but I don't know how many times I screamed "JUST SAY IT?! TELL HER! TELL THEM?! WHY?! WHY?! WHY?!" Ugh, but of course, I fell in love with him throughout the book and he is now on my list of book bf's alongside Connor and Lo.

The supporting characters were AMAZEBALLS. You still get to see plenty of Lily, Lo, Rose and of course Connor so this pleased me immensely! Haha. I'm not making sense anymore, I'm THAT tired folks so bare with me. I'm starting to fall asleep on the keyboard.

Overall, I loved this book. It was so well written, it had me laughing, it had me close to tears, it had me in screaming fits threatening to throw my kindle at the wall…. it had it all really! Buy this book! You will not be disappointed!!

I hike over to where Rose stands, her five-inch heels sinking into the dirt. Connor has his arm around her waist, and he tries to kindly take her purse from her, but Rose swats him with it.
"I'm not lying," she says. "It smells foul."
"It's probably the f***ing pit toilet," Rkye tells her. "You passed it in your car on the way here."
Rose shakes her head. "It's closer." She pinches the bridge of her nose and gags dramatically.
"Maybe it's your own stench," Lo says, holding Lily to his chest like she's a part of him, a piece that had been missing this whole time. He seems happier. "B**** No.5"

LOVED that comeback. OMG! Loren Hale, I love you! Hahahahaha. Enjoy the book guys!

I cannot express with words how I felt about this book! I had been waiting for Daisy and Ryke's story since they were first introduced!! I absolutely loved this book once again these authors did not disappoint!
What I love about the Ritchie sisters is they have the talent of being able to make the characters real, 3 dimensional, explosive, scared, doubtful; and each of their emotions touches you so deeply you can't help but fall in love all over again each time they appear in a scene of the book! Not every author has that talent..but the Ritchie sisters have mastered that talent! There is not one character in this book that I disliked or didn't understand! I'm read a lot of books and in each book I've read this far I can say there is always something that I don't like and this is the first time where I literally canno think of one thing I dislike or felt bothered by in the book!
Daisy was everything I imagined her to be and more! She was wild and mouthy and completely different yet strangely similar to both rose and lily! It was so beautiful seeing a character that was so different than her sisters but shared some of lilies insecurities and some of rose's strength yet she had so much of her own personality and it was woven into the story so beautifully! It completely wowed me!
And Ryke!!!!!by the end of the book he had me cursing and throwing the fbomb around like it was nothing! God I loved him! Everything about him drew me deeper and deeper Ito his character and I was able to completely dismiss my original opinion of him( which was never bad) but made me fall harder and harder for him! Both Loren and Ryke became two special characters for me! Even Connor who I loved in 'kiss the sky' is special to me! I felt like Ryke held my hand throughout the story..there wet lots of ahocking moments that had me gasping and scared for the future of the these characters and by the time the ending came I was completely contempt with the resolution and I realized how attached I was to their circle, their banter, their family! I absolutely just loved it!

I refuse to say more because I think everyone should buy this book..and not just this one but the entire series!! I seriously cannot wait to read the next book which will be Loren and lily and I'm hoping soon!!! Meanwhile get this series and enjoy, you won't regret it. The only thig you'll regret is not getting it sooner!!

Loved it more than chocolate cake

OMG that was insane! This series just keeps getting better and better. Daisy and Ryke's story was just so intense. I feel like I need to take a deep breath.
Daisy is finally 18 and we all couldn't be more excited. She and Ryke have been trying to keep their intense feelings at bay for some time. As we've witnessed in Kiss the Sky. Lines have always been a little blurry with them but now it's about to get a whole lot more complicated.
We also see the rest of the gang dealing with their crazy lives and trying to keep it all together.
This kind of book you can't say much without spoiling any of the deliciousness. I laughed, I cried, I fell in love with "Raisy". Now I want more, more, more! I could read about this family forever. I love this series more than chocolate cake ;)
