A Genius Heroine! Finally!!!

I ADORED this book! Omheaven it was AMAZING! The comparisons of the Cinderella tale along with this one were just enough that you weren't over powered by the resemblance (aka rolling your eyes) but still was enough for you to know is correlated.
Full of hilarity as well as genius! A heroine who is smart??? DEFINITELY my favorite character of all time! But enough about how amazing it was, go read it! You won't regret it! SO well done! Only one line that was accidentally repeated twice but it still works and it has nothing on this Very well told fun story!
I loved all the characters so much! What a brilliant and awesome idea that came to life with even more perfection!

Adding it to my favorites library!

Cute, romantic and relaxing but predictable ( except that one twist) ;)

A cute, romantic story about a girl who falls into a somewhat unrealistic situation. A nice, easy read, and exactly the kind of relaxing "fluff" I was looking for. Simple and obvious plot with a happy ending. If you you're looking for an overly complex tale that keeps you guessing at every turn this is not the book for you, but if you find yourself looking for a cute romance to just relax with, look no further.

OK but has the potential to be great.

Everyone loves a great fairy tale rewrite right? Well it was enjoyable but the characters were all over the place. Ella was practically manic. One minute she is shy, the next she is forward and bold. Just not believable. I really wish Emily had developed the characters a bit more. Fortunately the book is not a total loss. Pick it up and give it a read. The storyline is great and a major plus for me was it was a clean read.

Nirvana For Submarine Buffs

Having bought several "Anatomy of the Ship" books in the past, and browsed through others, I've pretty much known what to expect. These books range from stunning (John Robert's titles on Dreadnought and Hood) to hopelessly mediocre (the recent book on Bismarck, for example). But I was blown away by "The Submarine Alliance." This is certainly the most detailed "Anatomy" I've seen so far.

While other books in the series focus on three-view drawings, this title is packed with perspective and exploded views of the submarine's machinery, armament, and propulsion systems. There are General Arrangement drawings, of course, but they aren't the meat of this book. Along with schematics of the diesels and electric motors, you'll find drawings of the propeller lifting gear, battery ventilation system, torpedo firing gear, periscope optics, air compressors, low and high-pressure air systems, and more. Seven pages are devoted to the Admiralty-pattern diesels that powered six of the A-class subs, showing the engine framework, air start, lubricating oil, and circulating water systems, cylinder heads, fuel pumps and injectors, engine controls, supercharger, and valve gears. Submarines are incredibly complicated machines, and this book really shows it.

"The Submarine Alliance" is an impressively detailed book, and the quality of the drafting is of a high standard. The introduction includes additional technical detail, and the photographs provide a nice study of the class's evolution. Too bad it's out of print and John Lambert only created one other Anatomy title. This is one book that any serious submarine or naval architecture enthusiast will want on their shelf.

For those avid naval and modeling enthusiasts that really have to know where everything is and how it works, this is a book for you. Want to see what everything inside the submarine looks like?
2/3 of this book is dedicated to sketches and schematics of the interior of the "A Class" submarines. Unfortunately, they were not in service until after World War 2 ended, but were designed so well that they survived in service into the 1970s, despite the dominance and advantages of nuclear subs.

Based on the A type submarine class that served the Royal Navy for nearly 40 years, The Submarine alliance goes into incredible detail. If you have ever seen inside a submarine it is an amazing jumble of pipe, wires and gauges encapsulated in a tiny cylinder. This book depicts how it all works and is more like an engineers manual than the typical Anatomy of the ship book. Every system is drawn in detail, from the ballast tanks, how the pipes go through the ship, to the gauges that control them. Even the batteries are drawn in cutaway. This is the most intricate of this series in have seen.

About the Author
Early on, Cinda Gault's imagination was captured by women's issues as she organized a shelter for victims of domestic violence. After completing two Masters degrees in Criminology and English, she went on to earn her PhD featuring female and Canadian national identity issues in women's writing of the 1960s and 1970s. Since then, she has taught and written about Canadian literature. Now she offers this story of a woman's epic journey with a horse and a gun.

This Godforsaken Place is an engaging story about independence -- of thought and of action. Our heroine, Abigail, is trapped in Northern Ontario. As the walls begin closing in, her father's death and the appearance of a wounded cowboy present an opportunity to break free. And she takes it. You come to this book for the historical drama. But you keep coming back for the rich, fully realized heroes. You'll love the horse too.

I love an adventure story

I love an adventure story. I especially love an adventure story starring interesting, well-developed characters. This book delivers that. I was drawn into the story by the power of the Abigail's personality. I learned a good bit of Canadian history along the way. Thoroughly enjoyable read.

I enjoyed reading this book. It gave a combination of historical information and literary fiction and created a gripping story that kept me wanting to turn the next page. The main character is a strong and likeable woman in a time when it was "a man's world" and her character develops as the story progresses so we can see her courage and determination. Interesting historical characters like Annie Oakley liven the story up and give an element of truth. The story also depicts some interesting aspects of Canadian history in the 1800's. A good read.
