The Indian gospel of Jesus Christ summarized by Notovitch

Long before Jesus was born, India had become a familiar place in the Middle East because of the trade, and also missionary work of Buddhists beyond the Indian subcontinent. Buddhism had strong roots throughout India including Afghanistan and also parts of Egypt and Israel. Buddha ended his physical existence in 543 B.C. and Mahavira of Jainism in 526 B.C. The influence of Buddhist and Hindu teachings in Indian subcontinent was significant at the time of Jesus.

Canonical Gospels record the history of Jesus until he was 12 and then start again at the age of 30, but the intervening 18 years of his youth is unaccounted for. There is only one reference to Jesus' whereabouts; Luke 2.52 says; "And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man." This doesn't really say where he increased his wisdom and knowledge to preach the glory of God. In this book the author Notovitch gives a summary of his findings from the manuscripts he found at a Buddhist monastery in Ladakh. In his original work in French, Notovitch gives a minute by minute description of his journey to Tibet in 1887. The manuscript discovered by him at the Himis monastery near Leh, the capital of Ladakh gave an account of Jesus, referred to as St. Issa. These manuscripts were brought from India to Tibet via Nepal. The original was written in Pali, the language of Buddhists. This was translated into Tibetan language by the Buddhist Lamas. St. Issa's doctrine is not canonized in Buddhism and hence not read by ordinary Buddhists, except for Lamas.

Notovitch summarizes his findings about Jesus (St. Issa) in 14 chapters. Jesus travels to India with a caravan of merchants to study and understand the Vedic and Buddhist teachings (Chapter 4, verses 12-13). His trip leads him to Jagannath, located in the modern state of Orissa where Hindu priests receive him with open arms and teach him Sanskrit language and Vedas (chapter 5, verses 3-4). Having studied Hinduism and Buddhism for six years, Jesus was deeply influenced by Buddha's teachings. He travels extensively in Northern India to spread the holy doctrine (chapter 5, verses 3-4). Jesus preaches against unfair treatment of shudras and vaishyas. His teachings focus on the equality of all men, irrespective of their wealth or physical strength or the caste. He works for the emancipation of the poor and downtrodden (chapter 5, verses 11, and 22-27.) He preaches in Jagannath, Rajagriha, Benares and other holy cities of Hinduism and Buddhism (chapter 5, verse 5). When Jesus is about 28 years old, he heads back to his homeland to preach the glory of God, passing through many countries; Afghanistan, Persia and many Middle Eastern countries, before arriving in Israel. Many people were deeply touched by his humility and his message and they become his followers.

Chapter 1 start with the Indian traders who had witnessed the execution of Jesus by the soldiers of Governor Pilate (chapter 1, verses 1-5, and chapter 14, verses 1-5,) and the efforts of Pilate to prosecute Jesus (chapter 10, verses 3-21 and chapter 11.)

Notovitch studied and summarized his findings in 1889, and later in 1929, Swami Abhedananda of the Ramakrishna Order (Vedanta Society) reviewed and verified the authenticity of the apocrypha by personally studying them at Himis monastery. Later Nicholas Roerich and Elisabeth Caspari confirmed the existence of these documents during their visits to the Buddhist monastery at Himis

The translation into English from the original French has been beautifully rendered, and the work of Notovitch is highly illuminating and explains the whereabouts of Jesus in his adolescent years. There are a number of books in literature that discusses the parallels in the acts and sayings of Jesus with that of Buddha. The summary of Notovitch reads like a lost gospel of Jesus Christ.

It's the Missing Link!

Concise, organized, and empowering--Creating Character Arcs gives you the tools you need to not only create compelling characters, but to create compelling character-driven plots. I starting calling this book "The Missing Link" about the time I reached the half-way mark. It's that "ah-hah" book that ties together all the pieces of writing advice I've received over the years and offers guiding principles for getting a book written.

The questions at the end of the chapters are invaluable. A book that I started writing years ago, but set aside because I didn't have the skills to finish it is NOW finally taking shape with the help of this guide. Reading the chapters and then working through the questions has produced an outline that is keeping me on track as I write each scene. Experiencing my main character's character arc step by step is an amazing experience and this book is responsible for it. Like I said, it's "The Missing Link." All writers should have this book in their library to pull out each time they begins a new story. And if you use this book in conjunction with Wieland's other craft books, wower, you have a complete writing program that gets you from beginner to writer in no time.

CHARACTERS WANT AND NEED CREATE CHARACTER ARCS - THIS BOOK SHOWS HOW TO CREATE CHARACTER ARCS

Creating Character Arcs is a great addition to your writing library. This is another fine book by Ms. Weiland. She opens with showing character arcs and story structure are integral parts of your whole story. But I found that character arcs also affect the theme. The reason for the character's change involves a lie, or false belief, events have caused the character to hold deeply. One of the things I liked about each section were the concept examples from popular movies. Some examples were Thor, who believed Might Makes Right, and Toy Story, where Woody believed your only real worth comes from being the favorite toy. This lie creates a desire in the character to continue the belief no matter the cost or harm. When conflict occurs and the character discovers the lie was just that, the character must make a decision to continue with the way things are, or make a change for the better. The author refers to this as the character's need. The need develops because the character finds there is more to their existence than what they now have or do. So, the character must make a decision of whether to make the change to achieve the need or just keep on going. One of the new, to me, concepts that really stuck out was the idea of three character arc types. A positive character arc is where the character will become more fulfilled by choosing to change and gain the need. A flat character arc is where the character changes little, or none, but affects change around them. The third character arc type is the negative character arc. A character changes but ends up worse than where they began the story. These arc types for protagonists and antagonists, and for support characters to varying degrees. The author also mentioned an impact character. This is the character who brings about change in other characters. The impact character can exist as a mentor, love interest, sidekick, or even antagonist. They exist to initiate change in others.
Each chapter ends with multiple questions to ask yourself as you develop your characters and story. Questions in a couple of chapters helped me work out a difficult scene and how the character might react. The book builds upon earlier chapters as you work your way through the material. First understanding how characters wants and needs are related to the 'lie', the book relates this to the first, second, and third acts, and how the character arc climax affects the story climax and resolution in the third act.
This is a great book if you want to learn how to create stronger stories and stronger characters.

A wonderful addition to my collection

I have several books on character development, outlining and other aspects of writing in my writer's library. However, none of the references I have cover the material in this book. This book forges a link between character and plot development that I think many aspiring writers miss. This book is not character arcs in the abstract. This book ties character development aspects to particular points in the plot arc. For me this is a critical piece because it gives practical advice as to where and when certain things in the character arc should occur. Most of the book is spent on the positive character arc, but sufficient treatment is also give to a flat character arc and negative character arc. Numerous examples are given from familiar books and movies to show the various points of character development. So not only are the tips and advice practical, they come with practical examples so you can see exactly how different stories treat them. The book is worth the price of admission and I highly recommend it.

About the Author
Deborah J. MacInnis is the Charles L. and Ramona I. Hilliard Professor of Business Administration at the University of Southern California. She received her Ph.D. in marketing from the University of Pittsburgh in 1986 and holds a B.S. degree in psychology from Smith College. Dr. MacInnis has published papers in various journals; is a member of the editorial review boards of the Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing, and Journal of Market Focused Management; and serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Advertising and the Journal of Consumer Psychology. She is a past recipient of the Alpha Kappa Psi award, an honor awarded to the best paper published in the Journal of Marketing. She has also worked as a consultant to several major advertisers and advertising agencies, and she is currently President of the Association for Consumer Research.

About the Author

Ilya Mikhelson had more than 30 years of experience in design, research, and teaching design of bridges, tunnels, subway stations, and buildings. He wrote numerous publications, including Precast Concrete for Underground Construction, Tunnels, and Subways and Building Structures.

Tyler G. Hicks, PE, is a consulting engineer and a successful engineering book author. He has worked in plant design and operation in a variety of industries, taught at several engineering schools, and lectured both in the United States and abroad. Mr. Hicks holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Cooper Union School of Engineering in New York. He is the author of more than 20 books in engineering and related fields, including Civil Engineering Formulas, Handbook of Mechanical Engineering Calculations, and Handbook of Energy Engineering Calculations.

Good Reference

So I read this book, and I think there is good coverage of topics overall. Go back and look at the good reviews that people have left about the first edition of this book, a couple people have made previous reviews in regards to using this book for engineering practice and as a study aid for the P.E. exam. The civil and structural engineering principles are perfectly in line, and the book is very thin to carry around; so you'll hardly notice it is in your briefcase.

I noticed that this book is not up to date, which is why I have a four-star review here. I will explain why the book is not up to date.

For instance, on page 132 of this book is a page on base plates for columns. The equation this book has for allowable bearing pressure is 0.35*f'c*square root(A2/A1). Now in the ACI 318-11 and AISC 360-05 codes, the equation is 0.85*f'c*square root(A2/A1). So the mathematical coefficients are different due to updated codes, but the equations and engineering principles are the same.

In Chapter 2 or 3 of this book, there are some formulas for properties of geometric sections. The author used Roark's Formulas for Stress and Strain, 4th edition. There is an 8th edition of Roark's formulas in print right now.

good basic formulas

Check the variables!

Inconsistent notation. For example, on the same page, it shows bending stress = M/S and shear stress = SV/Ib, except the two Ss aren't the same value. Again, on the same page, it shows S = I/c and SV/Ib = 3V/2A for rectangles. Great. But knowing that the shear modulus (S)=bh^2/6 and I=bh^3, SV/Ib 3V/2A. Why couldn't they use shear stress = QV/Ib like everyone else? Q being the static moment, not the shear modulus. In fairness, they do an example on the next page making it clear they aren't the same thing, but why use the same variable on the same page two rows apart from each other when they don't represent the same value!? It's supposed to be a quick reference guide. If you quickly looked at that page and ran with it, you'd get the wrong answer.

A seering, shocking and thoroughly researched book on the role this Pope in playing in the ulitmate catacysm facing humanity.

This is the second of Leo Lyon Zagami's books I have read, the first being his, "Confession of an Illuminati, Volume 1." Both works are truly rare gems of research, startling and sobering facts that together show the web of the New World Order and the Illuminati that transcends nations and faiths into an evil cabal that is reaching its goal of world domination. This Pope is deeply embedded in that infamous plan to bring a cataclysmic reign of diabolical evil, human suffering and tyranny never seen before in human history. The part this Jesuit Pope is playing is totally in league with the world power elite found in the Bilderberg Group and similar power cabals; the Tri-Lateral Commission, CFR and Rothchild banking that the sleeping world and especially the U.S. population refuses to acknowledge, let alone care about. This book reveals this man's infamous part in the terror of Argentina when he was in a position of power and was party to the abduction and torture of two priests there, in addition to others needless suffering. His "great acting" which one associate of his characterized him as, is born out in the duplicitous actions where he seemingly abhors the sexual abuse of priests, yet is more than willing to be happy to cater to the infamous "Gay Lobby" that has incredible power within the Vatican. This penetrating book reveals the dark side of the Vatican, the past pope who fled his post and reasons that could well explain why; a dark, evil tale. As this Pope purses his designs in league with the New World Order of creating a one world religion and the presently under construction of Vatican II in Palestina, near Rome and the huge "Temple" being built there for this one world religion, one is left amazed that the "Temple of the Work of the Holy Spirit is little known, but will fulfill the diabolical goals this pope and others who have harbored as an all-consuming, obsession of a universal, One World Order religion.. The next five years will bring humanity to realize how the world elite are far from "Christian" or even humanitarian. Books like Mr. Zagami can greatly help to stem that flood of monstrous world manipulators.

Let's face it, throughout history, both politics and religion together have served to organize, control, guide and provide structure for Man. This book reveals these interactions in today's world. Such intrigues existed for all of man's organized existence.

It is very interesting to see today's issues and idiosyncrasies in this very detailed book. While at times it is difficult to follow, it is worth combing through to find many striking issues. Worth it if you have the time and patience.

Now this is the best of the three by the author...He reveals the man behind the PR...He hints at the shady side of the Vatican...No he actuallyreveals some of the darkest side of the vatican but fails to shine a critical degree of intednsity on the deepest darkness there...But does name names and adds to the growing knowledge about a very corrupt organization(the catholic church)...I did enjoy some parts of it...Better read than the other 2 books I've read by him...Sort of liked it...

I am currently reading this book. A discussion of how scientific discoveries are understood, misunderstood and misused by the general public.

The information provided for the sale of this book in incorrect. The book came out in 1954, not before 1923; so it is still under copyright unless released by the owners of the copyright.

Very good guide to the customs of the Russian people:)

I just ordered this book on Amazon, since I will be going on exchange in Russia for half a year and wanted a glimpse into the Russian culture and customs. This was a very good book, and it didn't take long to finish it. It had a lot of very useful information that you have to know if you are going to go for dinner at a russian home or you want to understand for example why Russians don't smile in the street. This understanding will be good so you wont at first glimpse think that Russians are rude and unfriendly. Definitely recommend it as an invaluable book to read before going to Russia (also recommend culture shock Russia, but this was a quicker read)

Student Dictionary

This is a great dictionary for a student or teacher as well. I like the fact that there is a two-color design and that makes it easier to find the word you are looking for. It is very simple and so easy to use. There is also extra information
for a complete learning experience. There are also 1,000 themed color illustrations
to make learning more fun and easy.

User-friendly for the beginner

Both contents and presentation are user-friendly. There is a good vocabulary coverage for the student, particularly at beginner level. This said, the beginner would also benefit from more detail on verbs.

Reviewing French

Teaching my six year old granddaughter some french conversation. This book was awesome and she loved receiving it. The picture translations are wonderful we both love and enjoy this book very much.
