Exceeded Expectations

Had to read this after reading a couple other Connelly books. Also compared to the movie, which Connelly subtly refers to in a later book in this series, when the Lincoln Lawyer is asked what he thinks of Matt McConeghay(sp?) playing him in a movie. He says he would be better! Great book, great series. Real characters, well developed. No disappointments.

A top-shelf detective novel

This review is for the 3 Lincoln Lawyer novels purchased as a set at a slight discount for the Kindle. I've only read the first one ("The Lincoln Lawyer") and started the second.
The Lincoln Lawyer is one of the few top-shelf, best-of-best detective novels I've read in some time. Good to excellent prose, in a simple and clean manner that keeps moving. An excellent plot that has a number of surprises until the very end. And an ending that makes you want to read the next book.
I don't give out many 5 star ratings because I reserve them for the very best, like these books. This 3-book set for the Kindle is a good deal: 20K+ "pages" of great work at a discount. I wish more authors and publishers would offer discounts for buying the entire series.
The bottom line for me with any first read of an author is, would I read more works of that author? How much would I pay for more? I already answered that for myself by buying the 3-book set. Try the sample yourself, that got me hooked.
Edit: I just finished the 2nd novel, and if anything, it's better than the first. Same great prose, and even more plot surprises. On to the 3rd novel!
I also happened to see the hardcover price of the same 3-novel set; $6 cheaper than the Kindle price! If I had seen that earlier, of course I would have bought the hardcover, which I then could have given away after reading. C'mon Amazon, why are you charging more for something that costs much less to produce and ship?
Edit: This last edit is for the 3rd novel, "The Reversal", which I just finished. I wanted to add a second review, but Amazon won't allow that. So I am editing this review and removing one star to take the overall rating for the set to 4 stars.
The Reversal is certainly a good book, but not up to the quality of the first two. It has both previous main protagonists, Haller and Bosch, in one story. The problem with this is sometimes the author uses the first person narrative viewpoint for Haller, and sometimes the third person for Bosch. It's not confusing, but somewhat annoying.
I also didn't care for Haller to be a prosecutor. At first I thought that would involve some nice twists but there really weren't any.
Finally the ending seemed somewhat contrived, didn't involve any intriguing plot twists, and left me rather unsatisfied.
Overall the set is worth it, and I'll be looking for this author's books on sale. Yes, I'm a cheapskate, so maybe I'll go to the library or used book stores for more. Maybe I can borrow an e-book of the author in a few months on my Kindle :)

A great read

I am a Michael Connelly addict. Harry Bosch and now Mickey Haller. It's as real as you can get. The Lincoln Lawyer series is courtroom drama at its best. If you like the Harry Bosch series, you'll like this series. Get it, got it, good!
